"The Time Is Now"

I have had a difficult time distinguishing between the present, and the future.  What counts as the present?  Songs like Annie's "Tomorrow", and the Fleetwood Mac song that goes,"don't stop thinking about tomorrow", put a lot of emphasis on the future, as if we shouldn't think about the present.
